
He is a Swiss–French scholar, human-rights advocate, and technology executive with more than three decades of experience spanning academia, civil society, and large-scale institutional leadership.
Trained originally in physics and mathematics, he earned his PhD in Mathematics from Boston University and later held academic positions at institutions including the University of Michigan, École Polytechnique (France), and the University of Basel. Alongside his academic career, he developed a long-standing engagement with interdisciplinary research, complex systems, and applied modeling.
Since 1997, Laederich serves as Executive Director of the Rroma Foundation (Zurich), where he has led international projects focused on Roma education, media representation, advocacy, refugee protection, and Holocaust remembrance. His work has involved extensive field engagement across Eastern and Central Europe, grant and project management, cooperation with journalists and policymakers, and sustained legal and social support for Roma communities in Switzerland.
He is a member of the Swiss delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and serves on the Committee on the Genocide of the Roma, which he chaired in 2024. He is also a co-organizer with Hanna Abakunova, of the Romani Studies Online Lecture Series, developed in partnership with universities in Uppsala and Prague.
In parallel, Laederich has held senior leadership roles in the financial and technology sectors, including Chief Technology Officer positions at UBS Wealth Management and UBS Asset Management, where he was responsible for enterprise architecture, large international teams, and complex transformation projects. He currently works as a partner in an IT consultancy group based in Switzerland.
He is the author and co-author of numerous academic and applied publications, including the landmark volume The Rroma (with Lev Tcherenkov), and has contributed extensively to research on Roma history, language, culture, and the Roma genocide. He is also the founder of Opre, a music production company dedicated to Roma music and cultural expression.
Laederich brings to the NGO a rare combination of deep scholarly expertise, long-term grassroots advocacy, and high-level organizational and technological leadership, with a strong commitment to historically grounded, ethically responsible, and internationally connected work.
