War, Society, and Everyday Life

This research theme examines how war, occupation, and large-scale violence shape everyday life, social relations, and material conditions beyond military and diplomatic history.

Projects under this theme focus on civilian experiences of conflict, including survival strategies, mobility and displacement, food and material culture, and the rhythms of daily life under conditions of uncertainty and coercion.

Research draws on personal narratives such as diaries, letters, oral histories, and other everyday sources. Where appropriate, custom-designed AI workflows support the organization and comparative analysis of such materials while preserving contextual depth and interpretive responsibility.

This theme connects scholarly research with broader public understanding of how societies experience, adapt to, and remember war.
