This research theme focuses on the experiences, representations, and social positions of ethnic, religious, and cultural minorities, as well as on relations between communities in plural societies.
Projects under this theme explore how intercommunal relations are shaped by historical legacies, political frameworks, institutional practices, and everyday social interaction. Particular attention is given to marginalization, inclusion, representation, and the conditions under which minority voices are documented, amplified, or silenced.
The Institute prioritizes research approaches that engage responsibly with communities and recognize lived experience as a source of knowledge. Where appropriate, custom-designed AI systems are developed to assist in identifying patterns, gaps, or biases across large bodies of qualitative material, while interpretation and ethical judgment remain human-led.
This theme reflects the Institute’s commitment to pluralism, inclusive knowledge production, and responsible engagement with diverse communities.
